Are You Living Your Dreams?
Too many of us have things that we’d love to do “someday”. The thing is, if you don’t treat someday as today — at least as far as taking a daily step toward the thing that’s most important to you in life — then someday may never come.
Don’t put off the important in favor of the urgent
It’s too easy to put important things off in favor of the urgent or the mundane tasks of everyday life. Yes, you have to eat something and earn some money, and it’s a good idea to clean your living area and yourself regularly, but beyond that — everything else is optional.
Really.
The life you are living now IS your life.
Your life, 10 years ago
Think back to what your life was like 10 years ago. Have you done things that you love doing since then? Are you doing something that’s important to you right now?
If things aren’t the way you want them to be, change them.
Yes, money can help with that — by freeing up time, or by letting you go off on an adventure, start a business, or make a big donation to charity. But even if you don’t see how you can afford to make one of your life goals happen, realize that money isn’t everything.
Determination and creativity counts for a lot. So does putting in the time and effort.
Get started
If you think you’re too busy, start with 5 minutes a day. 5 minutes! Everybody has 5 minutes to do something.
If you’re not sure what your life goals are (other than, I hope, being happy) get out and try a few random things to see what you might enjoy. You can also browse lists and suggestions on the internet, or think back to what you loved to do as a child.
Pick a dream, and get started. “Someday” never comes, but today is right here.
Taking action to live those dreams today, and everyday is definitely worth the struggle. Every little step counts, while putting it off can have devastating results. Thanks for the great reflection!
Now that we’re out of our debt management program, and our $109,000 of credit card debt is gone, I would say we’re on the fringe of living our dreams. We’re just getting started…. :)
I’ve been pursuing my dream actively for the last 6 years. It’s a lot of ups and downs, but I know I will never regret not trying my best.
We seem to have a nice balance of reality and dream. When we are overloaded, we schedule in a fun vacation. When we need more money, we add in more side hustles. Overall, we still have to work but we make sure to enjoy ourselves now too. :-)
