How to Create a Sub Account in ING
The ability to create “sub-accounts” in ING is one reason so many people continue to use ING Direct for their online savings accounts. It’s nice to be able to label your accounts, because it makes it easier to save for specific goals.
However, it can be hard to figure out exactly how to create a sub account. That’s because “sub accounts” aren’t called that. Instead, a sub-account is really just an additional savings account that you open with ING.
The difference is that it’s very easy to open, since ING already has all of your information from your first account. You don’t need to re-verify a bunch of information or re-link your checking account.
To set up a sub account for your savings if you’re already an ING customer, follow these steps:
- Go to ING’s web page.
- Click View my Account.
- Enter your customer number.
- Click Continue.
- Verify your image and phrase.
- Click the numbers of your sign in PIN.
- Click Continue.
- Click Open an Account.
- Click OPEN NOW at the end of the line that starts out “Orange Savings Account – A great rate with no minimums, no fees and no catches.”
- Choose the type of account you want to open from the drop down.
- Click Continue.
- If it’s a joint account, have the other customer log in as well.
- Enter a nickname for the account, if desired.
- Choose an account to fund the new account from in the drop down.
- Enter an amount to transfer to the new account from the account you selected in the previous step.
- Click Continue.
- If all of the information is correct and you agree, check the boxes after viewing the electronic disclosure and the terms and conditions.
- Click Open Account.
That’s it. Your new account will be created and can be viewed in your account list.
This post came just at the right time for me – I am going to open an ING account today.
Thank you!
Opening the first one is a little more involved, but after that it’s quick & easy to open additional ones :)
I know this process well…I’m an ING account addict, lol. It’s so useful for all our savings goals!
Tell me about it, I needed to open up another one so figured this was a good time for the example :)
I really love my ING accounts. I have a savings account for my emergency fund. I also have a regular account for my automatic payments, my life expenses, such as clothing, gifts, school expenses. There are months in which I don’t need to use my ‘life’ account, which becomes absorbed into my emergency fund.
I love mine too. And a life account is a good idea.
