I will elaborate a bit on Budgeting's comment here. To a lot of people, being successful simply means being successful AT THEIR JOB. Unfortunately, making a lot of money at your occupation (whichever it is) doesn't necessarily make you successful. To a lot of people, the price to pay for making a lot of money is not worth it. That doesn't mean they don't want to be successful, on the contrary. They just want to also have the other aspects of their lives well in-balance. That being said, I do agree that a lot of the "fear of success" has to do with the fact that you will have haters. Look at all the successful people, they all had to learn how to grow a thick skin...
